FCAG Opens 2017 with Two Shows

As 2017 begins the Franklin County Arts Guild brings two new shows to the Artisan Depot in Cowan. The Artisan Depot is an outreach of the Guild and provides a venue for local artist to exhibit and sell their work as well as a place for emerging artists of all ages to display their work.  The community show, “Out My Window” will feature a wide variety of watercolor, acrylic, pastel, digital collage and cut paper pieces.

The first Member Show of the year features the work of Dr. Joe Butler a contributing artist at the Artisan Depot and member of the Guild. Dr. Butler has been a pastor for over 40 years. Currently, he pastors the Belvidere and Harmony Cumberland Presbyterian churches.  He has always taken an interest in the arts and started painting with a long-time friend (Alfred Bennet) from Nashville, TN.  He enjoys painting doing landscapes and old buildings.  “When I see them it makes me wonder about their history,” he says.  Recently, he has taken up wood sculptures to express thoughts and concepts and is inspired by Louise Nevelson, a Russian wood sculptor, who died in 1988.  His newest passion is working with his wood lathe.  Taking a piece of wood and turning it into something of beauty and usefulness.

The community is cordially invited to attend the opening reception for these shows on Friday January 20th at 5pm. Celebrate the 2017 with these two great shows and other arts and crafts in the gallery.

The Artisan Depot is operated by the Franklin County Arts Guild and is located at 204 Cumberland St. East in Cowan, TN. Gallery hours are 12 pm to 5 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays and 11 am to 5 pm on Saturdays.
