Franklin County Public Library Art Exhibit
The Franklin County Public Library has begun exhibiting the works of local artists. Featured in May are the Pattern Collages of Jennifer Redstreake Geary.
Mainly a watercolor artist, Jennifer also delves into the world of collage as a means of getting away from her tight world of detailed paintwork. It allows her to be more-free flowing and experiment with recycled paper materials on canvas. She mainly starts with vintage dress patterns as a base and then builds layers from there. “I really love the color it provides me as a foundation to build on, and the graphic designer in me loves the lines and shapes that the patterns give me.” she says. Upon that, she lets her imagination run… allocating old and forgotten volumes from the late 1800′s of Dickens that were in the trash bin that she rescued in Baltimore. Not only those, but other books as well that she recycles as well as old Chinese prayer papers, handmade paper and hymnal papers. Craft flowers and acrylic paint find their way into her collages and then are finished off with a bit of glitter glue in places… maybe a butterfly or two. You have to really look. You never know what you will find. Her twin 8 year olds have also contributed to her collages, as they have been known to cut out hearts for her projects, which you can find amongst her collages.
You can see more of her work on her website but to really enjoy her collages, take a trip down to the library and see them in person!
The Franklin County Library is located at 105 S. Porter Street, Winchester, TN. 931-967-3706.
